Gators Women’s Swimming and Diving Sets Program Record in Academics
Emma Whitner is a University of Florida student-athlete who recently won a silver medal in platform diving at the 2020 Southeastern Conference (SEC) Championships. In addition to her success in athletics, Emma Whitner is a three-time SEC Academic Honor Roll recipient.
In a season that saw the team finish in second at the 2020 SEC Championships, the University of Florida Gators’ women’s swimming and diving team set a program record in the classroom as 27 of its athletes earned 2019–20 SEC Winter Academic Honor Roll distinction. This builds on last year’s record of 23 SEC Honor Roll members. Ms. Whitner, who is majoring in finance, was one of those 27 athletes. Others included Lauren Snider, Nikki Miller, Taylor Ault, and Madison Conway.
To make the SEC Academic Honor Roll, student-athletes must record a GPA of at least 3.00 in the prior academic year or maintain a cumulative 3.00 GPA. They also either must be on a scholarship or have been on the varsity team for at least two years and have completed at least 24 semester hours of coursework required for their respective degree. Lastly, they must have also maintained a spot on their school’s varsity team throughout its NCAA Championship segment.
